When it comes to living in the mountains or with the local Greek people Trekking Plan offers reservations for the Kallergi Refuge, the Neos Omalos Hotel in the White Mountains or a private house all situated on a beautiful peninsula called the greenest part of west Crete.

Kallergi Refuge

The Alpine Club of Chania owns the refuge of Kallergi but it is kept by an Austrian. He has, due to his origin, established an atmosphere of an Austrian alp refuge with a Greek touch in the west parts of Lefka Ori. It is placed on a peak 1680 meters above sea level giving most spectacular views over the White Mountains and parts of the Samaria gorge.
A total of 50 persons can stay the night, placed in some small rooms for 2-6 persons but also in an open sleep area upstairs. Driven by gas, because the refuge has no electricity, the kitchen offers delicious variety of dishes like Greek salads and goulash. Overnight includes breakfast. Enjoy your breakfast coffee viewing the sun rise over the mountains, it will be a memory that will last!

Neos Omalos Hotel

A little more modernized is the hotel Neos Omalos, placed on the plateau of Omalos, 1050 meters above sea level. A perfect spot to enjoy the mountains without being a mountain freak and to enjoy easier walks/treks around the area of Omalos. Easy accessed by car and bus.
The hotel offers single, double or triple rooms including breakfast. All rooms have WC/shower and TV. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinners, serving local dishes and grill.
